Lollie, Eden pace UAFS in high-scoring loss at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball went toe-to-toe with No. 3 Texas A&M – Commerce Monday before falling in a 99-86 decision.

UAFS had its best offensive outing of the year, scoring a season-high 86 points and shooting 45.8 percent. It scored 61 points in the second half by shooting 57.5 percent, including 33 points in the third quarter.

Although trailing by double digits for most of the game, the Lady Lions were always within striking distance. Down by 18 early in the fourth, the Lions cut the deficit in half to trail just 86-77 with 4:15 left.

However, A&M – Commerce responded by getting the lead back to 14, with UAFS only able to get it back to 10.

Both teams were effective in the paint, with Commerce scoring 54 points in the lane and UAFS 48. Forward Mar'Shalia Lollie was a large contributor to this, recording a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals.

Guard Ashanti Eden scored a career-high 22 points, while also adding five rebounds and four assists. Guards Paige Elston and Nya Stewart also scored double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Elston had a team-high seven assists.

A&M – Commerce hurt UAFS early in the shot clock, registering a 47-22 advantage in fast break points.

UAFS will return to action after the holiday break for a December 31 matchup against West Texas A&M at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
