FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Volleyball shook off a slow start to record an 18-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 win over St. Edward's Saturday in its annual Pink Game at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
After dropping the first set, UAFS trailed 8-1 to begin set two. The Lady Lions then used a 4-0 run and a 5-1 run to pull back within 11-10. A back-and-forth end to the set, UAFS finally broke through by scoring the final four points of the set with three kills and an ace.
UAFS led for the entirety of set three, and held off a late St. Edward's rally by closing the set on a 6-1 run.
The Lions had a 5-0 run in set four that gave them a six-point lead and led by as many as seven before a pair of kills by middle blocker Hannah Holland closed out the match.
Holland was a key figure on offense as she recorded 14 kills on a .355 attack percentage. Her partner in the middle, Chyra Thompson, led UAFS with a .500 attack percentage while totaling 10 kills. Thompson also led UAFS with five blocks.
Outside hitter Reagan Macha led the Lions with 16 kills as UAFS hit .250 for the match, including .472 in set three.
Setter Chloe Alderson set a new season-high with 47 assists and recorded a double-double by adding 12 digs.
Outside hitter Paola Fragalle had a team-high 14 digs, while libero Jazzlyn Wells collected 13 digs.
UAFS has a nonconference matchup Tuesday, as the Lions will face both UA Monticello and UA Pine Bluff as part of the UAPB Tri-Match.
