Studamire lifts Lady Lions over Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY – Freshman guard Jasmyn Studamire put together her best performance of her young career Saturday, scoring 19 points and pulling down six rebounds to lead University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball to a 71-65 road win over Oklahoma Christian.

Making her first career start, Studamire quickly made the most of her opportunity, scoring 15 points in the first half.

With the Lady Lions (3-6, 3-6 LSC) trailing 20-11 after the first quarter, Studamire outscored the Eagles (4-4, 4-4 LSC) by herself in the second, scoring 13 points as the Lady Lions won the quarter 25-12 to take a 36-32 advantage into the break.

The second quarter featured 8-0 and 7-0 runs for UAFS. After gaining the lead late in the second, UAFS never surrendered that lead.

UAFS extended the lead to 11 halfway through the third on a pair of free throws by Studamire, who was 5-for-5 from the line.

Oklahoma Christian got within three near the end of the third, but the Lady Lions extended the lead back to double digits late in the fourth.

The Eagles made one final push in the final minutes to pull back within four, but the Lady Lions made their final five free throw attempts. UAFS finished 23-of-30 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Hannah Boyett tallied a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing a career-high 10 boards. In 35 minutes off the bench, senior guard Dachelle Terry scored 14 points, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Paige Elston added nine points and six assists, and senior center Mar'Shalia Lollie contributed eight points and seven boards.

The Lady Lions knocked down 10 triples for the second time this season, shooting 10-for-24 from three.

UAFS also held advantages in second chance points, fast break points and bench points.

Next up for the Lady Lions is a visit from No. 2 Lubbock Christian to the Stubblefield Center February 5-6.
