KINGSVILLE, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Basketball fell to 0-2 on the young season Saturday, dropping a Lone Star Conference contest, 83-64, at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Lady Lions started the game strong defensively, forcing six Javelina (2-0, 2-0 LSC) turnovers. UAFS trailed by just five after the quarter, but the cold shooting continued into the half as TAMUK converted nine free throws and led 40-23 at halftime.
UAFS shot 47.1 percent in the fourth quarter en route to 25 points, but could not cut into the Javelina lead.
The Lady Lions forced 29 TAMUK turnovers for the game, leading to 22 points off those turnovers.
Both senior center Mar'Shalia Lollie and sophomore guard Hannah Boyett led the Lady Lions with 13 points apiece. Lollie also added a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Ashanti Eden chipped in 11 points.
Senior guard Paige Elston had a solid all-around game, scoring eight points to go with six assists and six steals.
UAFS will host its home opener next weekend when it hosts West Texas A&M in back-to-back games at the Stubblefield Center.
