The UAFS men's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak on Tuesday afternoon as the Lions swept their home-and-home, nonconference series against the John Brown Golden Eagles with a 9-0 win at the JBU Courts in Siloam Springs, Ark.
UAFS (4-9) won the first encounter with John Brown (6-4) 7-0 on March 11 at Fort Smith Athletic Club.
The Lions set the tone for their shutout by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead.
Daniel Borrero and
Wian Van Dyk beat Nathan Kuykendall and Cade Co 8-1 at No. 1 doubles,
Brady Kenyon and
Luke Anderson beat Sam Spencer and Mitch Berry 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and
Zach Delmonico and
Andrew Anderson beat Logan Wheeler and Woody Woodring 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.
UAFS won all six singles matches in straight sets. Borrero beat Kuykendall 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Van Dyk beat Cox 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Kenyon beat Spencer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles,
Luke Anderson beat Wheeler 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles,
Ethan Eddleman beat Woodring 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Delmonico beat Matthew Minner 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Lions, who have already secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Heartland Conference Tournament, will resume nonconference play on Tuesday when they play the Harding Bison at 2 p.m. on Searcy, Ark.
