Gulley Leads Lady Lions In Loss To No. 22 Lady Chaps

Nationally-ranked Lubbock Christian held UAFS to just 25-percent shooting from the field on Thursday night as the Lady Chaps beat the Lady Lions 65-29 in Heartland Conference play at the Stubblefield Center.

No. 22 Lubbock Christian (20-4, 10-0) swept the regular-season series against UAFS (7-15, 4-5) having won the first game 86-46 on Jan. 19 at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas. The win also guaranteed the Lady Chaps at least a share their fifth conference title.

It was the first of three final home games for the Lady Lions, who will host the Texas A&M International Dustdevils at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and the St. Mary's Rattlers on Feb. 23 at the Stubblefield Center.

It also was the first of six final regular-season games for UAFS, including road games at St. Edward's on Saturday, at Oklahoma Christian on Feb. 28 and at Newman on March 2.

UAFS made only 12 of 49 shots from the field – it was 0-for-5 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 71 percent from the free-throw line (5 of 7). Junior forward Tamera Gulley was the only Lady Lion to score in double-figures, finishing with 10 points.

Lubbock Christian, which held Texas A&M International to just 19 points in its previous game, forced 19 turnovers, too, that led to 11 points.

Sophomore guard Dachelle Terry and junior forward Tae'Lour Richardson each had five rebounds apiece to lead UAFS, but the Lady Lions were still out-rebounded by 17 rebounds (42-25). UAFS allowed 16 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points.

Lubbock Christian shot 43 percent from the field (22 of 51) – it was 6-of-16 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 71 percent from the free-throw line (15 of 21). Junior forward Maddi Chitsey led the Lady Chaps with 17 points, while senior guard/forward Olivia Robertson finished with 16 points.

Chitsey just missed a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.
