UAFS volleyball team continue their historic season as the no. 4 seed Lady Lions took down Texas A&M-Commerce (5) after a five-set long battle in Regis Fieldhouse by the scores of 16-25, 25-22, 27-25, 24-26, 15-8. The Lady Lions will play in the second round tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. (CST) against the tournament host and top seeded Regis.
Offensively the Lady Lions hit a .195 clip with 58 kills on 174 attempts and 24 errors and were led in kills by
Anna Demmer (12) and Norian Ceballos Plaza (12) while
Amanda Van Wyk,
Rachel Williams, and
Lexie Johnston added nine kills each. Ceballos Plaza also hit an outstanding .571 hitting percentage while Van Wyk led the Lady Lions in assists (42).
Defensively, the Lady Lions held Texas A&M-Commerce to a .199 hitting percentage with 62 kills on 176 attempts and 27 errors. UAFS were led by Ceballos Plaza with 7 blocks and
Anna Demmer with 19 digs.
"It was just an epic battle," said volleyball head coach
Jane Sargent. "We played this team twice before so we kind of knew their tendencies and they knew ours. We played to our strengths and they played to theirs and fortunately we came out on top tonight," concluded Sargent. See the full press conference video

The Lady Lions will take on Regis at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, Colo.
