UAFS Volleyball to Celebrate the Senior Day

UAFS Volleyball team will celebrate its seniors before the Senior Day game against UT Permian Basin at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Stubblefield Center. Six Lady Lions will be graduating either in upcoming December, or in May, 2020. Learn more about them in this text

Laryssa Correa
Graduating junior setter Laryssa Correa is playing her third season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 67-24 record, a 32-6 regular-season conference record, Heartland Conference Regular Season Championship, Heartland Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Laryssa has a 4.0 GPA and has been on the Dean's list for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years. She has also made the Presidents Honor Roll every semester that she has been at UAFS. Laryssa is also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. During her Lady Lions career, she has played in 71 matches and collected 8 kills, 228 assists, 21 aces, and 158 digs. She will graduate with Bachelors of Arts in Media Communication. Today she is escorted by Yvonne Correa and Tina Morales.
 
Rachel Williams
Graduating junior outside hitter Rachel Williams is playing her third season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she has helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 67-24 record, a 33-6 Heartland Conference Regular Season Championship, Heartland Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. During her Lady Lions career, she played in 98 matches and collected 845 kills, 6 aces, 17 assists, and 275 digs. She is the Lady Lions' fourth all-time leader in kills (845) and was named Honorable Mention All-Heartland Conference in 2017. Rachel currently has a cumulative 4.0 GPA and was on the Dean's List for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. She has been on Commissioner's List Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. Rachel is a member of the Black Student Association, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and Diversity and Inclusion committee in athletics. Rachel is graduating a year early and desires to become a news reporter one day. She is graduating in May 2020 with Bachelors of Arts in Media Communication.
       
Lauren Wood
Senior outside hitter Lauren Wood is playing her fourth season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 91-30 record, a 47-6 regular-season conference record, two conference regular-season championships, two conference tournament championships, one conference tournament runner-up finish, and two NCAA Tournament Appearances. During her Lady Lions career, she played in 52 matches and collected 180 kills, 9 assists, 31 blocks, 9 aces and 134 digs. Lauren is the recipient of the academic excellence scholarship, and has been on the Commissioner's or President's honor roll every semester she has been at UAFS. Lauren is graduating with her Bachelors in Elementary Education. 
 
Amanda Van Wyk
Senior setter Amanda Van Wyk is currently playing her only season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she has helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 21-5 record, a 14-1 conference record and a top 5 regional ranking. So far, in her Lady Lions career, she played in 25 matches and collected 898 assists, 29 aces, 96 kills, 286 digs and 52 total blocks. In her overall career, Amanda recorded over 3,200 assists, over 1,000 digs, 557 kills, 129 service aces and 190 blocks in 108 matches! She was named 2017 GAC Player of the Year, GAC Setter of the Year, GAC Tournament MVP, D2CCA All-Region First Team, Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, and has made the Dean's list in Fall 2018. Amanda is graduating a semester earlier in December with Bachelors of Science in Organizational Leadership.
 
Erin Black
Redshirt Junior right-side hitter Erin Black is playing her fourth season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 91-30 record, a 47-6 regular-season conference record, two conference regular-season championships, two conference tournament championships, one conference tournament runner-up finish, and two NCAA Tournament Appearances. During her Lady Lions career, she played in 85 matches and collected 277 kills, 951 assists, 130 blocks, 82 aces and 417 digs. She was named 2016 Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year. She is the seventh all-time leader in assists. Erin is the recipient of the John and Kim McFarland Business Scholarship and has been on President's or Commissioner's roll every semester at UAFS. Erin is graduating with double major in Accounting and Finance.
 
Anna Demmer
Senior outside hitter Anna Demmer is playing her fourth season for the Lady Lions. During that span, she helped lead the Lady Lions to an overall 91-30 record, a 47-6 regular-season conference record, two conference regular-season championships, two conference tournament championships, one conference tournament runner-up finish, two NCAA Tournament Appearances. During her Lady Lions career, she has played in 112 matches and collected 1,272 kills, 88 assists, 73 aces, 219 blocks and 1,075 digs. She is the Lady Lions' all-time leader in kills (1,272), third all-time leader in digs (1,075), fifth all-time leader in blocks (219), and third all-time leader in serving aces (73). She was named 2018 First Team All-Heartland Conference, 2018 Second Team D2CCA All-South Central Region, 2017 Heartland Conference Player of the Year, 2017 First Team All-Conference, 2017 Second Team All-Region, and First Team AVCA All-Region. Anna was on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List in Spring 2018, Fall 2018, Spring 2019. She is a Student Government Association Representative for College of CLASS, created the "You are Enough" mental health campaign of mirror decals on the campus bathrooms with mental health resources and encouraging words during term with Student Government Association, member of the Black Student Association, Diversity and Inclusion Council, Student Athlete Advisory Committee and has rode her bike without training wheels at 3 years old. Anna is graduating in May with Bachelor of Arts in Media Communication and her current GPA is 4.0.
