Going into the new athletic conference this year many things were uncertain, but the success of UAFS women's volleyball team has only gotten more noticeable. UAFS volleyball earned its seventh NCAA Division II Tournament berth in its nine-year division II era as the Lady Lions were seeded fourth in the regional playoffs - which is the highest seed for any UAFS sport in the division II era. As a fourth seed the Lady Lions will take on the fifth seed, conference rival, Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Lady Lions have split the season series against Texas A&M-Commerce as they lost the first match 3-1 at home and won the second match on the road by 3-2. In those two matches, the Lady Lions were led offensively by 2019 Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year,
Lexie Johnston who hit an overall .431 clip with 27 kills on 51 attempts and only five errors.
Courtney Crownover recorded 22 while 2019 Lone Star Conference Player of the Year,
Anna Demmer added 21 kills. Defensivelly, the Lady Lions held Texas A&M-Commerce to a .157 hitting percentage with 124 kills on 350 attempts and 69 errors.
The South Central Regional Tournament takes place in Denver, Colo. on the campus of the No. 1 seed in the region - Regis University. The tournament will begin on Dec. 5 and will conclude on Dec. 7. To advance to the Elite Eight, the Lady Lions will have to win three consecutive matches in three days during this single-elimination tournament. Elite Eight will also be held in Denver, Colo. as it is hosted by Metro State.
