UAFS Cross Country teams competed at OBU Invitational on Saturday morning in Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla. Running against highly competitive lineups, Lions were led by
Alfredo Gallegos who ran 26:47.91 placing 13th overall. On the Lions team, Gallegos was followed by
Will Phillips with time of 26:58.15, placing 15th overall. As a team, UAFS Men's Cross Country placed 4th with an average time of 27:38.94.
The Lady Lions were led by
Kandace Young who paced the UAFS team with 19:30.50, placing 6th overall. As a team, the UAFS Women's Cross Country placed 7th with an average time of 20:52.07.
Coach
Mason Rhodes was very pleased with the effort put on by both teams, "Our men and women ran hard from the gun today. We put ourselves in the right position to be competitive with the rest of the field. I am extremely pleased with how everyone raced today. Our men and women ran with more confidence than ever before."
Both teams are now preparing for the Conference Championship which takes place in SIlver CIty, NM on October 26th. "We have two weeks until conference. Our goal is to sharpen our speed and maintain our overall fitness. By the time we race in New Mexico we should be at our peak fitness and have a stand out race."
