UAFS held Rogers State senior forward Lauren Schuldt well below her team-leading, double-digit scoring average, but the Lady Lions still weren't quite able to completely shut down the Hillcats offense.
Four other Hillcats scored in double-figures as Rogers State edged UAFS 71-65 on Saturday afternoon at the Expo Center in Claremore, Okla.
It was the first road game of the young Heartland Conference season for the Lady Lions (4-11, 1-1), who were coming off a stellar 98-85 home win in Wednesday night's conference opener against Oklahoma Christian at the Stubblefield Center.
Rogers State (8-7, 1-1) shot 47 percent from the field (25 of 53) – it was 9-of-22 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 75 percent at the free-throw line (12 of 16). Junior guard Azaria Floyd had 15 points, while junior guard Ke'Aunna Johnson had 14, senior guard Desiree Nelson 12 and junior guard Alicia Brown 10.
Schuldt, who came into the game averaging 12.3 points per game, finished two points before fouling out, but she had a team-high seven rebounds that helped the Hillcats out-rebound the Lady Lions by two rebounds (34-32).
UAFS shot 41 percent from the field (23 of 56) – it was only 1-of-7 shooting from 3-point range – and shot just 69 percent from the free-throw line (18 of 26). Senior forward
Ellie Lehne, whose defense shut down Schuldt, finished with 19 points before fouling out. Junior guard
