Running under rainy, wet and sloppy conditions, the UAFS women's cross country team battled an ultra-competitive field that included several of the top NCAA Division I and II teams to post a 28
th-place finish in Saturday's Chile Pepper Festival 5k at the University of Arkansas' Agri Park in Fayetteville.
For the second week in a row, redshirt freshman
Kandace Young led the UAFS contingent, finishing 59
th in the 425-runner field with a school-record time of 18:37.3. The previous school-record mark was 18:51.46 set by former Lady Lions runner Kelsea Geschwentner in the Missouri Southern State 5k on Sept. 22, 2013.

th with a time of 20:56.4, senior
Savanna Herbert finished 267
th with a time of 21:13.6, senior
Madison Trees finished 283
rd with a time of 21:24.3, sophomore
Morgan Fagan finished 288
th with a time of 21:27, junior
Carmen Hedstrom finished 317
th with a time of 21:55.2 and redshirt sophomore
Kaylie McVoy finished 389
th with a time of 23:58.8.
Host University of Arkansas placed three runners in the Top 10 to win the meet with an average time of 17:03. University of Arkansas' Katrina Robinson won the event with a time of 16:15.3, edging teammate Carina Viljoen who posted a time of 16:28.3.
