UAFS won its fifth-consecutive, season-opening volleyball match on Friday morning, sweeping the East Central Lady Tigers in the opening match of the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational at the Junell Center in San Angelo, Texas.
The Lady Lions won the match 25-18, 25-10, 25-11 to improve to 10-0 all-time against the Lady Tigers.
UAFS (1-0) will resume play in the two-day invitational at 2 p.m. today when the Lady Lions play the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas. Live statistics and live stream will be available at

Sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Williams had a career-high 17 kills and junior outside hitter
Anna Demmer, who is the reigning Heartland Conference Player of the Year, had 10 kills to lead the Lady Lions, who compiled a 0.278 hitting percentage with 44 kills on 108 attempts with 14 errors.
Freshman setter
Taylor Stoops collected a team-high 34 assists in her Lady Lions' debut, while junior middle hitter
Brylee Burroughs served the Lady Lions' only ace in her debut.
East Central (0-1) had just two total blocks as a team and had 42 digs in trying to slow down the potent UAFS hitting attack. Senior libero Abbey Wehrman had a team-high 13 digs for the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Lions dominated the Lady Tigers defensively, holding East Central to a negative-0.088 hitting percentage with 17 kills on 114 attempts with 27 errors. Senior middle hitter Karina Erreguin led the Lady Tigers with five kills, while sophomore setter Sydney Dungen had a team-high seven assists.
