Green, Gulley Lead Lady Lions In Loss To No. 6 Lady Panthers

UAFS senior guard Mariah Green and junior forward Tamera Gulley each scored in double-figures on Tuesday night to lead the Lady Lions in a hard-fought 92-63 loss to the undefeated and No. 6-ranked Drury Lady Panthers at the Stubblefield Center.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Lady Lions (3-7), who were coming off home wins against Northeastern State and Southwest Baptist. It was the third game of a four-game home stand for UAFS, which will host No. 23 Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. in the home stand finale.

Green scored a team-high 13 points, while Gulley had 11 points off the bench to round out the Lady Lions' double-figure scoring. UAFS shot 47 percent from the field (23 of 49) – it was only 4-of-14 shooting form 3-point range – and shot 65 percent from the free-throw line (13 of 20).

Gulley and senior guard Daijah Brown each had seven rebounds to lead UAFS, which finished tied with Drury with 31 rebounds apiece.

The Lady Panthers' defense and quickness proved too much for the Lady Lions, who trailed 10-0 three minutes into the game. Drury, who was forcing an average of 32 turnovers a game, forced 30 UAFS turnovers that led to 29 points and 12 fast-break points.

Drury (9-0), which led 46-22 at halftime, shot 56 percent from the field (38 of 68) – it was 9-of-16 shooting from 3-point range – and shot only 50 percent from the free-throw line (7 of 14).

Junior forward Hailey Diestelkamp led the Lady Panthers with 30 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Emily Parker had 16 points, sophomore guard Payton Richards and sophomore forward Azia Lynch had 14 points apiece and freshman guard Paige Robinson had 13 points.
