With the Heartland Conference Tournament looming, the UAFS volleyball team kept its hopes of earning the No. 2 seed alive on Tuesday night with a sweep of the Newman Jets at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.
UAFS won the match 25-11, 25-9, 25-18 to sweep its regular-season series against Newman, which lost in three sets at the Stubblefield Center earlier this season.
The Lady Lions remained in third place in the conference and trail league leader Lubbock Christian (19-7, 9-1) by three matches and trail second place St. Mary's (13-13, 7-3) by one match. St. Mary's, however, swept UAFS in the regular season.
UAFS will close the regular season at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Lubbock Christian at Rip Griffin Arena in Lubbock, Texas.
The Lady Lions hit at a sizzling 0.400 clip with 45 kills on 100 attempts with just five errors. Senior middle hitter
Debra Rogers had 12 kills, while sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Williams had 11 and junior outside hitter
Anna Demmer had 10.

Pilar Onstad served three of the Lady Lions' six aces.
Newman did not record a block, but the Jets did collect 46 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Mackenzie Anderson had a team-high 15 digs.
UAFS held Newman (2-24, 1-10) to a paltry 0.045 hitting percentage. Senior middle hitter Yemima Buana led the Jets with seven kills. Sophomore setter Reagan Roth had 19 assists, and Roth and senior outside hitter Braddy each served one of the Jets' two aces.
UAFS had eight total team blocks. Redshirt sophomore right-side hitter
Erin Black had five block assists to lead the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions collected 49 digs with Onstad accounting for a team-high 21.
