Lions Ready To Run In Chile Pepper 10k

The UAFS men's cross country team will face its toughest course of the season on Saturday when the Lions compete in the 29th annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival 10k at the University of Arkansas' Agri Park in Fayetteville.

The men's race, which was only an 8k in previous years, will begin at 9:30 a.m. The course is a combination of grass, cinder and uneven terrain.

It will be the third of four regular season races for the Lions. UAFS finished third in the season-opening University of Central Arkansas Cross Country Challenge 5k on Sept. 9 and 24th in the Missouri Southern State Southern Stampede 8k this past Saturday.

UAFS finished 32nd in last year's Chile Pepper. Sophomore Will Phillips led the Lions at last year's race, covering the course in a time of 26:26.49 and finishing 86th.

Phillips led the Lions in six consecutive races before last week, when junior Brooks Hedstrom led the Lions at the Southern Stampede.
