After a lengthy layoff for spring break, the UAFS women’s and men’s tennis teams returned to action on Friday against nationally-ranked Midwestern State University at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.
UAFS, however, struggled in its first matches back from the break with the Lady Lions losing 8-1 to the No. 40-ranked Lady Mustangs and the Lions losing 9-0 to the No. 31-ranked Mustangs.
The Lady Lions (7-10) started off the match by winning the No. 1 doubles match, where sophomore Masa Podunavac teamed up with freshman Taylor Price to defeat Kayla Casay and Madeline Schorlemmer 8-6.
Podunavac had a hard fought loss at No. 1 singles, losing to Sarita Adhikary in three sets. Price found herself in a similar situation, losing a three-set thriller to Taylor Coffman.
Despite a rain delay, the Lions (6-8) stayed focused ready to play. They fought hard, but fell short.
