It didn't take freshman Jesus Galindo long to make a lasting first impression in his UAFS cross country debut.
Galindo covered the Forest Park Cross Country Festival 6k course in a time of 20:31, eclipsing the previous school record on his way to a 36th place finish on Friday night in St. Louis, Mo.
The Springdale, Ark., native's strong finish helped propel the Lions to an eighth-place finish in the 12-team field that featured several NCAA Division I teams.
The University of Missouri won the meet, followed by Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas State, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Truman State, Saint Louis University, Williams Woods University, UAFS, Oakland City University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Kaskaskia College and Culver-Stockton College.
Galindo beat the previous 6k school-record mark of 20:54.40 set in 2010 by Ta'Baris Earnest in the Baylor Twilight Invitational.
