Sophomore Deana Portillo shot a 3-over par 75 to lead the UAFS women's golf team to a fifth place finish Tuesday in the Heartland Conference Tournament held on the Apple Rock Golf Course at the Horseshoe Bay (Texas) Resort.

Originally scheduled for two rounds over two days, inclement weather – lightning and rain – interrupted the tournament on Monday, forcing the first round to be suspended. Tournament officials decided that once play resumed on Tuesday that the tournament would be shortened to one round.

UAFS shot 27-over 315 and finished 19 strokes behind champion St. Mary's. St. Mary's shot an 8-over 296, edging runner-up St. Edward's by eight strokes. St. Edward's shot a 16-over 304.

Defending champion Dallas Baptist shot a 17-over 305 and finished third, Newman shot a 23-over 311 and finished fourth – four strokes ahead of UAFS. Oklahoma Christian shot a 28-over 316 and finished sixth, Lubbock Christian shot a 42-over 330 and finished seventh, Texas A&M International shot a 57-over 345 and finished eighth and Oklahoma Panhandle State shot a 125-over 413 and finished ninth.

Portillo finished tied for fifth and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
