It hasn’t taken UAFS freshman Jessica Salas to make a name for herself.
           
Two races, to be exact.
           
Salas became only the second Lady Lion in the seven-year history of the women’s cross country program to win a meet on Saturday, leading UAFS to the inaugural UAFS-Trinity Invitational championship.
           
UAFS placed three runners in the Top 10 and five in the Top 20, winning the meet with 35 points. Southeastern Oklahoma State was close behind in second with 41 points, placing three runners in the Top 10 and six in the Top 20.
Henderson State was third, placing three runners in the Top 10 and five in the Top 20. Hendrix was fourth, placing one runner in the Top 10 and three in the Top 20.

The Springdale, Ark., native joins former Lady Lions Kelsea Geschwentner as the only Lady Lions to win a meet. Geschwentner won the University of the Ozarks Invitational as a junior on Sept. 28, 2013.

Salas covered the challenging 5k course at Fort Smith’s Trinity Junior High in a time of 21:10.1, edging Lady Lions senior Katy Carter for the overall title. Carter posted a time of 21:41.1 to give UAFS a 1-2 finish.
