UAFS left fielder
Dion Williams has been named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for his performance this past week during the Lions' four-game stretch.
The junior from Kansas City, Mo., batted 0.429 with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs during the Lions' four-game stretch last week that included a non-conference, extra-inning loss to the Northeastern State RiverHawks and a sweep of then conference co-leader St. Mary's Rattlers.
Williams compiled a 1.048 slugging percentage and a 0.455 on-base percentage. He also compiled a perfect fielding percentage with six putouts in six attempts.
It was the second weekly conference honor for Williams, who became the Lions' all-time, single-season leader in triples (11) this season and currently leads NCAA Division II in triples and triples per game.
Williams, who also leads the team in batting average (0.357) and RBIs (41), provided a spark for the Lions this past weekend, helping them sweep the Rattlers and earn the No. 2 seed in this week's Heartland Conference Tournament.
The Lions (31-18), who posted their first 30-win season as a member of NCAA Division II, will play the No. 3 seed Rattlers again in the first round of the four-team, double-elimination tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at The Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas.
