Two UAFS baseball players have earned Heartland Conference weekly honors for their performances this past week during the Lions' series sweep of the Texas A&M International Dustdevils.
Senior pitcher
Tyler Nelson was named Pitcher of the Week, while junior left fielder
Dion Williams was named Hitter of the Week.
Nelson, who is from Bryant, Ark., dominated for the Lions during their series finale against TAMIU – a 13-0 run-rule win.
The senior tossed a two-hit shutout in the complete-game effort with no walks and four strikeouts. Nelson (2-3) retired the first 10 batters he faced and 13 of the first 14 batters before giving up his only hits – consecutive one-out singles.
Williams, who is from Kansas City, Mo., batted 0.667 with six hits, including three doubles, and seven RBIs during the Lions' sweep of TAMIU.
He compiled a 1.000 slugging percentage and a 0.636 on-base percentage. He recorded six putouts, compiling a perfect fielding percentage.
UAFS (10-10) has won five games in a row and will finish its current seven-game home stand at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts
Northeastern State at Crowder Field in a nonconference game.
