UAFS first baseman
Josh Vanderpool has been named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for his performance this past weekend in the three-game series against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.
The Gravette, Ark., native batted 0.556 with two home runs – his sixth and seventh of the season – and five RBIs. He compiled a 1.222 slugging percentage with a 0.667 on-base percentage and a perfect fielding percentage.
Vanderpool helped the Diamond Lions win the series 2-1. UAFS lost the first game 10-9 but won the second game 5-2 and the finale 3-2. The Diamond Lions finished the season 24-21 overall and 13-14 in conference play.
UAFS finished sixth in the 10-team conference and failed to qualify for the four-team conference tournament. No. 3-ranked St. Edward's (40-10, 23-4) won the conference and will host this weekend's conference tournament. No. 24 Lubbock Christian (35-15, 20-7) finished second, Oklahoma Christian (28-20, 17-10) third and St. Mary's (31-19, 16-11) fourth.
